Chicken(s?) not feeling well

I have identified the soft egg layer, and started stuffing calcium pills in her. Will repeat daily until egg situation improves.

Sick girl is looking much better and has gone outside to chicken with her friends. Still pale, still slow, but eating treats and staying closer to her flock.

I still cannot see through her nares at all. I should be able to see light? Is there a photo anywhere of what I should see?

The nares should be open like your nostrils. You can try taking a Q-tip with most of the cotton removed and dip it in oil and try poking it into the nares and pull out any crusty stuff (boogers). If she has tissue flaps of the nare holes, try pushing upward on the flaps with the Q-tip, then going inside the nares with the Q-tip and clean them out.

She has tissue flaps over the holes, but they are very tiny. I can't imagine a Q-tip being effective here. A toothpick could be more useful, but she wouldn't tolerate that at all...

Edit: She had about a 1/2 full crop when we went to bed tonight. And she was flappy and struggly and didn't want to be picked up for her VetRX rub. What is in that stuff anyway? It's like a miracle...

No soft egg today, and sick girl seemed very happy about treats and outside, so I'm going to let her range today.

Welp, here's an update. Soft egg laying has completely resolved since stuffing calcium pills down her once a day. She doesn't care for this process, but we're sorted.

The other girl who was suddenly sick and then spent 2 days getting back to full health hasn't laid an egg since. Or maybe 1. How long does it take before they show symptoms of reproductive error? She's still very happy and her paleness is fully resolved.

She might be practing some unauthorized nesting somewhere - they range at will. Broody hens have moved into her coop and it's possible she's just not having the intruders.

She laid a fine brown egg today. Guess she needed some time to get her groove back.
