Chicken Saddles

Welcome to BYC! Sorry your experience with saddles went wrong. I've never used them, so can't really offer advice for them. If the bare backs are caused by mating, then separating out the roosters for a while is the best option. If it is caused by feather picking/eating, you need to find out why it is happening, and go from there. The medical/emergencies forum will be best for that.

Welcome to the Flock! I'm having saddle issues too. I made two different kinds to hide wounds and allow feathers to grow back. I just cant get them to stay on. One was for my hurt rooster and the other for my smallest buff orpington. How many roosters do you have? I have 2 for my 15 girls and I'm beginning to think one needs to go. I believe there is some feather plucking and pecking going on too. I think mine might be doing it because of space. How big is your run or do they free range? I'm learning so much on here, I'm sure you will find everyone is very helpful on this site! I think "sourland" has the right idea about the pinless peepers. I do believe that is my next line of defense. Now if I could just get the saddle to stay on so the rooster stops doing so much damage too.:he
