The fire ants here are awful! They won't bother a live healthy chicken, but will swarm over anyone ill, dying, or dead. They are more of a nuisance to us, causing painful itching and festering boils. I don't like putting out insecticide, but try to get rid of the mounds made in the walkways and around the yard furniture.
I've offered every bird here a handsome cash incentive and central air conditioning in their coop if they would only eat up the fire ants. So far neither the chickens, guineas, ducks or geese have taken me up on this offer.
