Chicken safe plants in the run

[Me + Peeps]

I was thinking about putting some medium bushes in my chickens run. what plants are safe and which are not? is this a good idea, i really don't care if they shred the bushes just something to keep them entertained. Are there any plants that chickens like better?

They eat Hostas. Honeysuckle they dont eat, but good shade. Mine anyway.

mine don't eat aloe, rosemary, lavender, succulents, hummm still thinking........ they stayed away from my cactus, lilies ok i am done!
there is a sticky in feedings i do believe...it has a treat sticky and has a link for bad plants to have~

Here's a link to a rather long list, maybe it will help. I kind of think it's a little too extensive. I haven't had any problem with my chickens eating any plant in my yard. A little damage from their scratching, but that's it. Good luck

Mine like sperimint...is this for them to eat? They also like impatients and panies, and daisies. I plant sunflowers every year and they won't touch the seeds. But they will eat bird feed.

And I take cheap bags of bird feed...not that this has anything to do with your question but....

I buy bags of cheap bird feed and add water to it and close it up. I add water every week...and over about a two month period these fat white worms will form and it will be full of them. My girls really like that. So then take a scoupe and feed them a full scoupe and they love it! I have to lock the bag up because they will get into it and eat the seeds, worms and all.

Leave the bag somewhere hot and humid for it to work like a shed, or something.

How do you keep the moistened birdseed from getting moldy?

It's best to put BIG bushes in the run. They will eat all the leaves that they can reach but a taller bush might have a fighting chance.

Well, I thought that the big prickly pear cactus in my run is a safe bet, but the bunch of four recently discovered that they like eating the leaves. The cactus is starting to look like a swiss cheese

The sunflowers have been devoured upon from the beginning. All the lower leaves are long gone. They go absolutely nuts over the sunflower seeds too. I was thinking of planting some grape vines along the fence area, but don't know if they'll go for the leaves as well. They sure like eating grapes. That much I know for sure.
