Chicken seems as if she can't breath

Don't be discouraged. Mine did same. She'd wake up all perky and one day even singing the egg song for her "sister",lol, after giving her antibiotic each evening late just before they go up to roost. Then by mid day she'd be dragging again and just kinda laying around uninterested in anything going on around her. I've now given it for 5 days once each evening, (though I was now told it should be twice a day(??)), but anyways she's now doing much better and starting to eat better each day I think. So give it some time with the antibiotic and also do get that nutrition in her asap because I really think that's the only thing going to help get her strength back. What antibiotic are you using BTW, if you don't mind me asking? Did you google it or how did you decide on it?

Your home sounds heavenly!!! Boy I'd LOVE to be in a place like that so bad... I am tired of being in this same scenario all my life. In about 3yrs, when my husband retires, we are heading up north. We cannot stand the heat down here anymore. God willing of course!!! We are the opposite of snowbirds!!! Hahaha In fact we LOVE the snow and freezing cold weather. Since we'll be retired it's not like we'll have to be out there shoveling snow at 4am so it won't be an issue for us!!! I CANNOT WAIT!!! Lol
Well continued good luck with your baby!!!

Thank you ya she was up running around with her brother today after I gave her the food and got the antibiotic in her. She isn't breathing as heavy after I gave it to her but she does go and caugh sorta like every few minutes but she dosnt go and constant breathing heavily like she was this morning before I gave her the stuff. I am using the antibiotic I mention in one of my earlier posts. I will finish this post and go and find it for you. And where were you planning to move when you and your husband retired the fall and winter here is the best thing it dosnt get so much snow as Newyork does but this year we got 2 foot the most we got since my dad and mom was in school. So our neighbor on top of the hill got out the snow mobile And was riding up and down the road before the plow trucks came through. Ya my neighbors that lived down there they couldn't stand how hot and muggy it got down there so they moved up here and went to state college and then they moved again to be able to get a dog and be outside and have a yard to live. But before our other neighbor built the house that they live in it used to be nothing but woods. And he build a few other houses on our street. And when he built there house being we live right at the bottom of the mountain literally there front yard was nothing but shell. So he had to get some dirt for there front yard and we have the nicest neighbors they have horses and they ride up and down the road you can see the horse shoe tracks in the road. The lady that used to live there now lives on the other road. O I relise you could probably care less but when the First Lady that lived there sold her place and moved to the other road this small family moved in and had a daughter and they could badly pay the bills so his wife comes over and asks for money all the time us and other neighbors even the older lady up back, and would hide the bills in the horse barn from her husband and tryed selling his guns just to keep the bills paid.she went to jail but now this really nice people live there I take some of my roosters over there to live so when we go for a walk we see them over there with there hens.

Does anyone know if these antibiotics will work they are called levofloxacin 750 MG tablets?

This is what I give her I crush it up into a powder mix it with water. And syringe some into her once a day. And what I fed her today was a pealed potato to get some weight on her through it into the microwave and mashed it up mixed in some milk for vitamins and calcium. And then it was still thick so I went and made the homemade electrolodes and added 2 and 1 half a tabke spoon of the mixture. And she ate some of it her self but she wouldn't eat enough that she needed to so I have to force her to eat a little bit more and I will give her some more here. And she has pretty much recovered from sour crop so her crop is emptying fine now one thing after the other.

Wow I've never heard of giving that to a chicken?? It's an extremely strong antibiotic even for humans!! I don't think I'd use anymore of that if she's better as you can seriously overdose and kill her. Surely you're only giving her a tiny bit of a pill?? But if she's doing better and starting to eat and walk around now you must have done something right!! So I'm really glad she's gonna be alright!! I'd just keep getting her to eat like you did. The potato was real good as far as putting weight on her. It does not have alot of nutritious value for chickens though so glad you're adding vitamins to it and made some electrolytes too!! That will do her a world of good!! The more vitamins you get in her now with some things to put weight on her will be very good for her in my opinion. So good job!!

Wow it sounds like that lady was nuts!! Thank goodness they're gone now!! I'd be scared having people like that around me. Lol
You never know what they're capable of doing next. But wow you live at the base of a mountain?? Isn't that awesome!!

We aren't sure where we're moving to yet. I like the New England area and New York State alot. We also LOVE NYC also!! Of course that's BIG CITY LIFE, but I like that too!! I just don't like being in the middle of both sides like we are in the suburbs all my life!! We go to NYC every chance we get though my husband's kinda getting tired of it since we've seen most we wanted to see. But I still love going there. We were there on vacation for 9 days during the mini blizzard at the beginning of the year. Remember that?? It was gonna be the biggest blizzard in hundreds of years etc etc Lol
Then it never happened!! We did get lots of snow coming down hard and fast but it was no blizzard!! And the mayor closed everything down... no subways nothing!! Heeeeheeeeee it was really going though!! So anyways I'd love to go to Boston or Rhode Island, New York.. oh really ANYWHERE as long as its cold and snows ALOT!!

WELL glad things are better with your chicken. Keep feeding her all you can and she should pull thru!! Best of luck to you!!

I think I only give her about 1 ml of the antibiotic and the water solution and she has been fine with it. And yes when you come onto our street that splits off onto these two other streets we live on the street to the left and if you keep going straight less then 20 seconds you are literally already starting to go up the mountain there is houses and camp part way up hen you get to the top and you can see all the farm land and look over the ride where In town McVeytown is. It's really nice going over there at night see all the stars. Do you know Becky's homestead from YouTube I know she lives down there and many of some really nice chicken breeders.

That place I could live there it's so peaceful get away from everything. Just wish I could take the chickens wih me. But anyways I just let them out of there house about half an hour ago she was eating drinking running around. Took a short dust bath, and she does still do a little bit of a cough that she does every few minutes. But I gave her a little bit more the the antibiotic than I have been the first few days so idk weather to just let her go off the antibiotic for the day or just keep her going with it for another day or two.

Oh God I lost mine!!! I don't know what happened??? She had started eating again and everything. She was up and walking around. Then my husband found her yesterday morning in the roost. She had just passed away it seemed. Oh I'm devastated!!! I'm beyond upset. I've cried for 2 days now. I am so broken. I honestly think she had cancer and the vet does too. All the fecals came back normal for everything... Negative I mean. So there was no diseases or anything that could be detected. God I'm upset and so sooooo sad. Now my other girl is all alone. I don't know what to do??? I feel so sorry for her all by herself. My husband won't let me get another chicken. He says they are tying us down when we want to go away etc etc and he's right. But then again I don't want to give her away either??? So I just don't know what to do now??? I am so broken and upset. I was not expecting this because she seemed to be so much better. I just wasn't.

As for your girl I'd say give her the antibiotic a few more days to be sure!!!

O I am so sorry for you loss I would personally just get another hen and have a neighbor watch them when you want to go somewhere. You could pay them a few dollars a day to go and feed and water them for you. I have been still giving her the antibiotic and days I seem to give her more than I have been she seems better for about two days but then I try to ease her off of it a bit by lowering the amount but then she starts it again. So I am going to keep hpgivimg it to her but if she isn't any better by Friday I am just going to see about putting her down as much as I don't want to it will end her suffering even though I really wanted to see what cold of eggs she lays and then her brother will be lost without her so idk what to do either.

Well me and my dad just decided to go and put her down thanks for the help it seemed to work for a few days but hen she would start it again but she is in a better place but now her brother is gone crazy trying to find her. He had other chicks his age but they are mostly roosters but they will be going soon. Hopefully to the neighbors house so they won't be put down. They don't do that until they get older I think but they haven't been here hat long to know cause when they moved here they brought some of there older birds but a fox killed them so they ordered about 30 hens from a hatchery but then a weasel got a few so they are down to about 25 hens and two roosters. They still have my first rooster from my first hatch he should be about 1year and 2 months old now I gave him to them when he was about 5 months but his color and crow changed a lot since.
