Chicken sick

Oh that's all surprisingly good news! Those types of injuries take time to heal. But her drinking and standing - both good signs.

It's been a couple of weeks since I last updated you and Lucky is not just standing, she is limping. Still eating her mash that I make and no more loose stools. I was wondering if she had an infection in her leg tendon, how long might this cause her to limp? Remember, the first two weeks she was not limping (guess the infection had not set in). I am still giving her a pinch of my antiobiotic in her mash. Hope you are having a wonderful 4th weekend. Thanks,

Well my fourth of July weekend consisted of my mare getting her private-goods kicked in by my gelding. /sigh They *always* know when it's going to be a holiday. Thankfully my vet came into the clinic just for her and gave her some plastic surgery and stitches.

Of all things. Really this one's for the books.

But otherwise, a lovely weekend hearing that your bird is standing and at least limping. I would stop with the Cipro now as it's been quite a while and Cipro is a quite strong drug. At this point, I'd say it's a tear that needs time to mend. She might always limp. It's possible, but I bet in time she won't.

Similarly when I had a duck with a broken leg, and the leg set within 10-12 days, she limped for at least a month because of the other tears. The same with my goose who also had a broken leg. It takes a while for them to mend in that way. Both of mine were able to, but it seemed ages until one day they just were fine.

Congrats on the good care that you gave her! She's a lucky girl.

Sounds like an expensive weekend. It's been probably a month on Cipro, and I was wondering how long to continue. Guess any infection would have cleared up by now. If it is a tear, why was she walking for the first two weeks? Seems like it would have been the worst then?
You're such a blessing to have you to communicate with!

Well that's very kind of you, thank you!

I have a lot of people in my life who are blessings and I try to catch up with them. lol Not always that good at it tho.

I'm just glad to try my best to help.

On the walking at first, and now not, I don't know. That is an odd one. You'd think the problem would have been then and not now. If it gets worse, let us know. How badly is she limping? Like gimpy, or won't put her weight on it fully? Does it seem to be a leg thing, or is her foot at all different?

By the way, keep up with the yogurt another couple of weeks. Do it daily for a week, then every other day for the next week because of the length of cipro treatment. Then she should be fine - just give when you want to give them a boost. Some people do it daily. I do it more often monthly or weekly if I have new layers.
