This is such a shame. I'm so sorry it happened to you! I hate going away and leaving my animals behind. No one ever cares for them the same way you do!

When I pet sit, I usually collect the money after the client gets home. You could also try calling veterinarian offices to get recommendations of pet sitters. That is usually a pretty good option, especially if you can get some solid references!

I know not a lot of people who have pets chickens and outside pets have anyone to be able to care for them when they go away I tend to stay back to care for my animals but not everyone can do this. I have family that has animals and live not far away they help when every I have to go away and have my husband with me we don't go much since we have the animals but maybe you could have a relative care for your animals while you are away. If this happened to me with a sitter I would get her full name and a address of where she is now and file a compiant to you SPCA they will look inot it and will bring her back I think for the charges that is neglect I also would be there IF she is in court and tell them you want to talk to the judge about this, I also if you did take pictures of the conditions of the coop and of the dead chickens this is proof you had them. I am sorry to hear this I hope you find her and give her what should be coming to her but more then liely she will be fined and no jail PITY they should all get jail time at least a year in the maistream maybe they would think before they do something like that again.

Sorry for your losses, its hard finding good help anymore, most want the money then run, I have a neighbor that I trust very well, as last year on the 4th we went to texas to my parents and I gave the neighbor our house key instructions on how to feed our dogs when to let them out, and she took very well care of the dogs, and would trust her to do it again, and now having the chicks which she thinks are the most cutest things would be more than happy to take care of them if I need to leave for a few days again. I am very leary of trusting anybody anymore as I have been lied and betrayed many times, so I never trust somebody until they prove that trust to me.
