I have a 2 1/2 week old americauna chick sitting with both legs straight out front. Eating, drinking okay but not great for three days now. I've tried a straddle leg hobble but no improvement. When held it will put the left food onto table but right leg is held up. No sign of redness or swelling. Feet and toes are fine. Hubby won't let me take to vet. The rest of my chicks (34) are fine. Feed has been the medicated chick starter with vitamins. :(It's in a small box by itself so it won't get picked on. Any suggestions?

I had three hatches this last summer and had a few like yours. As far as I know there is no cure. Not sure of the causes. Not enough warmth might be one, also having a slipery surface when newly hatched. I humainly put them out of their misery. I'm fairly new so better get some more ideas.

I would keep it hobbled and give it polyvisol vitamins for a while. I'm not sure of the exact dose, but you can put it right in the beak. Do a search on polyvisol to find the dosage, or maybe someone can post it.
