chicken smashed chicken's egg

We have two chickens 3+ years old. today I went to check in the nest boxes and found that one chicken smashed another chicken's egg. I think I know who's egg it is and who did the smashing. It is our brooding hen that probably did the smashing. I don't know what to do.

Not really anything to do. Egg was likely thin shelled and just got stepped on. Or it was a poor broody egg that was destroyed to keep the rest of the clutch safer

If it is a continueing problem, and if you don't already have a free choice calcium such as oyster shells add it. An egg getting broken in the nest here and there is normal.

You can always add a couple porcelain fake eggs. When they peck them it hurts! Then they will stop breaking eggs

Maybe, if they're actually intentionally pecking them until they open, which I've never experienced when my birds lay strong shells and aren't brooding.

I recently have found broken eggs too. My 6 hens (1 yr old) have been fine for the past 6 months of laying but for some reason in the past 2 weeks there has been 4 eggs destroyed - don't know which one is doing it but it occurs in the one box that most of them like to lay in. Only thing that has changed is that we have introduced new pullets in their area for the past 2 weeks. Truly a messy mystery .
