I have a chicken that smells bad. It smells like something dead or rotting. She has what looks like a white puss or white scab around her vent. She has some kind of infection I'm guessing, but what is it? Why does she have it? What do I do to treat it? Any ideas?

No idea what or why, but for starters treat by soaking in warm water with epsom salts until its clean enough to see what's going on. If there is an injury put neosporin or another antibiotic without painkillers in it. The painkillers may be poisonous to chickens being the reason.

She may have suffered a prolapsed vent or was vent pecked or both. Epsom salt warm soaks daily, debriding or scrubbing off the dark scabs, and applying a plain antibiotic ointment daily is what I would probably start with. She should be separated from others until she has started to heal.

Baby wipes work well for keeping the vent clean as it heals. After cleaning the vent as described above, you'll fare much better with Miconazole cream applied around the vent. Keep it clean daily or you'll have flies laying eggs, and eventually maggots invading the vent. Pay attention to consistency of droppings, i.e. excess urates, watery droppings, excessive mucous. Post what is seen. Don't use ACV. Use probiotic dispersible powder in waterers 2-3 days a week if anything.
