Chicken space

Hello my name is Jen and i am new to this thread. I will be a first time chicken owner. I will be getting 6 chickens and wondered if a 6x6 converted shed would be enough space.

Welcome to the forum.

Basic recommendation is 4 square feet per bird. 6 chickens X 4 square feet = 24 square feet. Your 6 X 6 converted shed = 36 square feet, so you should be more than good to go.

Please post some pictures of your shed conversion into a coop. Lots of people would be interested to see your progress. You might get some good responses if you want some suggestions in the process. Lots of experienced people on the BYC forum. Many people willing to answer questions and help if they can. Hope to hear more from you in the future.

Hi Jen, welcome to BYC. That should be plenty of space provided that you have a run also. You will want to keep their drinking water in the run. Two nesting boxes should be sufficient.
