Chicken Spotlight

Here’s my favorite pullet, Blueberry, it was close to a tie (or whatever you call a tie but with all of them) but eventually I made a choice, Blueberry:

The first one is Blueberry and the rest are all the others because they’re all so cute but I’ll tell a bit about Blueberry:
I’m training her to come when I say her name (more successfully than you would think, she’s pretty smart!)
Sometimes she comes when you don’t call.
She HATES being caught but LOVES being held (and cuddled of course)
She’s very long as in her feet hang down to my waist when I hold her.
When she was really little her middle toes were pink while the rest were gray

And then next is Sugar my favorite full grown hen:

Now a bit about her:
SHE’S JUST PLAIN GOOFY!
She’s a escapee, but she escapes in a silly way. She jumps up on the middle of the fence, let’s it sag so the top is at an angle than wobble-climbs to the top and fall-flies off. Chirp her friend who also escapes flies up to the wooden part of the fence with no sagging required.
When she was little she would eat her down as it fell off.
She rests her head on my shoulder when I pick her up.

Oh my goodness! I see why it is an equal tie across all of those beauties!
Blueberry is an adorable fluff and I'm super impressed she recognizes her name. Great work!

You have such delightful birds! Sugar is a fantastic name for being a trickster cuddle up.

Meatbird (part 2)

Meatbird is also from the same newborn chick order as Whip. She is just over 13 weeks old.

She was the tiniest of the group and easily identifiable from the others with her brown fluff and little white face.

The kids thought it was funny to name her Meatbird as all the babies were labeled dual purpose. Our purpose is for eggs...but mostly as pets. I tried to get them to shorten it so we could just call her MB (and then I could pretend her name was MaryBeth), but Meatbird stuck.

She learned early on how to pose for the camera.

I thought Meatbird was a Cinnamon Queen, but really have no idea at this point. Her feathers have interesting marks unlike any of our other birds. She has a variety of feather colors and outlines that makes her easy to admire.

As mentioned earlier, she is the most vocal of all our girls. Rwwwwak! RWWWWWAK! She found her voice earlier than the others and hasn't stopped since. She sounds like a creaky old door in a horror film sometimes.

Meatbird's social status is like that kid in school that everyone likes, but no one is besties with. She does her own thing, and no one really challenges her....except the dog with staring contests as posted earlier.
