We have a flock of hens that we have had for 10 days and one of them likes to fly to the top of the coop roof and squak. We recently put up a fence to keep them in a particular area of our backyard which includes grass, dirt, bushes etc.
She used to squak before we extended their roam area and we were hoping this extra area would suffice. Do you think she is protesting the limited area when she sees the rest of the backyard where she wants to roam?
Any thoughts on how to quiet her especially on the weekend when I’m sure my neighbors don’t want to hear squaking chickens?

Thanks!

Connie

That may be so.

How many birds, with ages and genders?
How big is coop and run, in feet by feet?
Dimensions and pics would help immensely here.

They may make other noises, chickens are not necessarily quiet beings.

Oh, and.... Welcome to BYC! @ccrabster

We have 3 hens - one is 10 months old and 2 are 9 months old.
They came from a family with a large backyard. We need to limit their space. But, they have a large area to run around with a combination of dirt, grass and perch areas- roughly 40 ft by 20 ft.
After a few more days they have calmed down a lot and I think it was still an adjustment for them to understand what space they were given.
