Chicken stopped eating and laying. Pooping out clear liquid with white and yellow "urates". Bloated crop.

My EE hen woke up saturday and she wouldn't eat, was moving around slowly and pooping out a clear liquid with white and yellow bits (what I would describe as urates).

At first I thought she was having an issue laying because she is usually a good layer. She hadn't laid in a couple days and was sitting in the nest box. Her vent was pulsing and destended. But then on sunday I noticed that her crop felt kinda full and watery/bloated even though she hadn't eaten in a couple days.

I read that it could be sour crop so I got some Miconazole and started giving it to her last night. Also gave her some boiled egg, probiotics and ACV water. She seems to be doing better now. She's more active and has been showing an interest in food again. Crop seems to have come down a bit and her poops are starting to look normal again, although still a little more liquidy than I would like.

I wonder if it is actually sour crop or she might have eaten something that made her feel sick for a couple days? I've seen her puke up liquid randomly, but she has always done that so didn't think much of it. We have an avocado tree and tomatoes but try to keep them away from it. I wonder if she might have accidentally eaten that or some rotting fruit that she found on the ground.

She seems to be improving now. Just wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone.

This does sound like a crop issue to me. I had a hen go through a similar issue. She had a doughy crop and was only passing liquid. She was very sick and would not eat. After the 7 day treatment of monistat she was much better. Sounds like your hen is getting better with treatment, so that was likely the issue :)

From what I understand it takes quite a bit of munching on tomato plants to make a chicken ill. For what it’s worth mine always snatched leaves off of ours on their way from the run to the yard last year and they stuck their heads through the fence and ate the neighbors plants bare on one side; we had no issues with them being sick.

I hope she continues to recover and improve.

I’m having an issue with an EE that sounds so similar!!! She’s pooping clear liquid or very wet poops with yellow urates. Her crop felt full yesterday and empty upon checking this morning . When I checked this afternoon it feels like it’s full of air!!! She’s slow and laying down a lot 😭 she laid Saturday and Monday but skipped Sunday and today … she’s usually my most dependable layer- fist thing in the am , there’s here egg every day! I’m so worried about her . Did your chick improve or did you find out what it was?! Mine sees the vet tomorrow and it seems like a year away 😭
