If she's behaving normally I would not worry....just be patient.

...or anything else....I'd stop adding both of those things.


I would not jump to the conclusion that worms are the problem...but can be good to find a reputable lab that will do a fecal test and report species and numbers of worms/eggs found.

I haven't looked around yet for avian vets in my area so I suppose that now is a good time to do that and not when there's a major problem. I'll be closely observing her in the meantime. Thanks.

Talk to them first, ask if they'll do a fecal on a chickens and can give species and numbers.

These notes are for a 'sick' bird but will work for collecting poops.
I isolate bird in a wire cage within the coop for a day or two....so I can closely monitor their intake of food and water, crop function(checking at night and in morning before providing more feed), and their poops. Feel their abdomen, from below vent to between legs, for squishy or hard swelling. Check for external parasites or any other abnormalities.

Best to put crate right in coop or run so bird is still 'with' the flock.
I like to use a fold-able wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller mesh(1x2) on bottom of crate under tray.
Then you can put tray underneath crate to better observe droppings without it being stepped in. If smaller mesh is carefully installed, tray can still be used inside crate.

It's rather timely because I found myself with a sick bird today, my Speckled Sussex. She was panting and sitting in place in the run as I gave all my chickens their treats. She had no interest and she let me handle her which she normally resists. I knew something was wrong. Then my Easter Egger started pecking at her comb, causing it to bleed, so I scrambled to get my dog crate ready. It doesn't fit in my 4×6 coop so I have it in the run now. She has stopped panting and sitting in place but I'm apprehensive to reintegrate her. I'm a bit worried because it will go down at night to 26F tonight and 19F tomorrow so she cannot stay in the run overnight.

Should I keep her quarantined and if so, for how long? I may have to move her into the garage with the cold temps. I already checked for mites and there's none I can see but I haven't checked her abdomen. Will do that next. Thank you.

I have 4 hens one bantam and 4 hybrids and I'm only getting one egg a day from a hybrid. We think the bantam may be 4 and the hybrid 18 months to 2 years. How can I get more eggs?
