One of my older girls was fine this morning. Boisterous (she's the queen) and running around. Later this evening I noticed her standing around and not running to greet me as normal.

She's tail down, and slow. Her crop is ok and even more she's eaten some mash with vitamins and had water.

However she is far from right. Her abdomen is normal and not swollen. It is soft and I can't feel any egg. If I gentle palpate her abdomen, there is one point where she stretches out and makes the rasping sound of a painful pushing.

She's went out of the coop today when my back was turned and she was clearly eating whatever she could. I suppose it could be a physical injury that happened when I wasn't around. I just didn't know and can't explain it.

She's went from absolutely fine to really unwell in a matter of hours.

I've given her mash with vitamins. I'm going to administer Meloxicam to help her with any pain and keep her indoors tonight. I've given Avipro to help with digestion.

I've never seen anything this quick before!

Please advise. I have some Nystatin and nutridrench but that's about it. I also have calcium carbonate tablets but she is not a daily layer so although she's not laid for two days, that is not uncommon (plus I cannot feel anything on an inspection). It's the gentle palpitating that causes her pain - or some injury but not one I can detect visually.

I would give her the calcium ASAP. Calcium citrate is even better, if you can find it. The fact that she hasn't layed in two days, coupled with your description of the droopy tail makes me think she's having an egg issue.

Just noticed this post is from Sunday. I'm sorry it got lost in the fray. Hope your girl is well.
