CHICKEN SWAP- JUNE 13 HAMPTON FALLS, NH

No, I haven't put any requests out on craigslist or uncle henry's, though I do browse craigslist from time to time.

I've only recently decided that this could be the year to get some and was prompted to action by the size of some chickens I saw in a chicken show in Maine yesterday.

if you picked up the list of breeders from that show you could contact them. anyone get the list?

None of the birds I saw at the show were New Hampshire Reds, I was just struck by the difference in size between the breeder birds and the hatchery birds that are so common. The two large cockerels that stood out to me were a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Plymouth Rock. (That having been said, I didn't see a breeders list.)

I am interested specifically in New Hampshire Reds, not Rhode Island Reds (even though I know that New Hampshires were developed entirely from Rhode Islands). It is my understanding that New Hampshire Reds were selected for meat qualities including early growth, and that is what I am most interested in.

shay, when you go to the show this week will you grab a show list that gives the names etc of the owners of the birds, and keep your eye out for some new hampshire reds in particular. you never know there may be a breeder in ma. or close enough to go to that swap.
