so anyway, I've got waaaay too many chickens for my zoning. I heard about a chicken swap and thought "great, I can thin out the herd". I packed up a few birds that I knew I could get rid of. Yep, within a little while they were on their way to their new homes.
You know how this ends, I came back with exactly the same number of birds that I left the house with. Including a re-hab project and 2 chicks.
I feel lucky that I came out even, chicken wise. The $$$ never did seem to balance though!
I guess thats why they call it a chicken swap!

I did pretty good at the last swap I went to. I only took 4 to sell, and they were gone in 5 minutes. Drove a half hour to get there, may as well take a look around, right? Bought 2 POL pullets after giving some thought to the age of my layers. But not too bad, I still came home with less than I left with!

Last time I didn't take any to sell, and wanted to see what this other swap was like up in Lucasville, OH. Let me tell you, it was animals as far into the horizon as you could see! I walked until my ankle swelled up! There were pet raccoons, miniature horses, bottle calves, goats of all kinds, fowl of all kinds, and all I came home with was 2 call ducklings, 2 hamburg pullets, and 36 Wheaten Marans hatching eggs. So proud of myself for saying no to everything else!
