this is Spike, my funky frizzled bantam faverolles cockerel. he's 4 months old and i have yet to figure out if he has started crowing.
not sure what color to call this but it is definitely not a standard color faverolles come in! interesting project bird though!

he does have his fifth toes but they are both fused as you can see in the pic.

eta: he's been a sweet boy for me. he will let my pick him up to carry around without much fuss. really liked it after our photo shoot that i sat down with him on my lap to give him a gentle scratch in the neck feathers. had him so relaxed he started falling asleep.

Hi there! Nice pics! Mine never want to pose. So is Beatrice still a brat? Bella was always a sweetie.

What did you use to get the frizzle? Going to work on those too? What about the cuckoo project?

What colors are you missing now, just white and blue? Or maybe you need some LF.

Keesmom, Beatrice has been a wonderful girl for me! she likes to jump up to my height whenever there is somewhere she can do it! she would let me pick her up a lot this summer but my jealous turkeys kept trying to scare her out of my lap so they could get up there!
lol.png
she loved free ranging with the turkeys when i let them out after i got home from work. she tends to stick close to me when i'm doing stuff in the coop.

Bella has a fan! one of my friends who doesn't own chickens really wanted to check out the flock and fell in love with her! Bella being the sweet and friendly girl that she is jumped into her hand and just settled in for some petting!

my cuckoo project isn't going to be for another year or two and i decided to use a barred bantam cochin instead. the LF boy i was going to use was being rough on my poor bantam girls and the LF girls i had bought as chicks back in May i decided i didn't have room when they got larger. i couldn't get the breeds i wanted anyways. Cole did have 2 chicks hatch out from his crossing with my favs but neither had the barring i was looking for. i re-homed him with a friend that needed a Lf roo that was gentle around people. they have plenty of LF girls for him to 'service'!

eta: oh yeah! i could use a blue and a white girl to add to my flock! i was supposed to get 5 LF girls from someone in Rhode Island but they haven't told me if they are ready to part with them yet. they are some of Dick's project birds! one is a white!!!!

What great pictures! Thanks for sharing. I am planning to give Spike a good home! This is our first year with chickens and my kids really want a frizzle. We'll see what he makes with our cochins this spring! I'll try to post pictures of his future friends tomorrow (at work tonight).

Thanks!

oh, i also meant to respond to your question on how i got the frizzle boy! i will admit it, i was looking for more fav eggs on ebay and won the auction he came from. i had 3 chicks hatch-Spike, his brother Jet who got the frizzling too with wonderful toes and salmon faverolles coloring but he has a small crest like he was crossed with a polish or silkie!? the 3rd chick didn't make it past the 3rd day-moma hen squished the poor baby
hit.gif
this is the first time i bought eggs from someone on ebay and got strange results for favs.
hmm.png

i'm going to keep Jet for a little longer to see how he grows out. i have a girl i'd like to pair him up with eventually but she isn't a faverolles, she's some sort of polish cross that ended up with 5 toes too! i may try him with one of the favs to see what i get. i just hope that crest doesn't pass down to those chicks too.

Sounds like the seller had someone jump a fence.

Cute mixes though. I've seen auctions from Catalpa Grove recently on ebay for bantam blue salmons, if you're still looking for eggs. At least you can trust them. Laura has a trio (quad?) out of their eggs also. Blue salmon roo and I forget on the hens. Maybe one salmon and one blue salmon?

Hi folks. For anyone who has new chicks, someone on craigslist has a six day old chick for free. The poor little thing was apparently the only one to hatch and needs some buddies. The ad says it's in Gilmanton.
