That is a lot of driving! I bet you get to see all the crazy drivers out there ...

Amy

I see alot of accidents just after they happen. winter is the worst. I am out all day so I know when there is black ice or if the roads are slippery because they have not been treated yet. I cringe when four pm comes. many people get out of work and drive like it is july. they whiz by me and in a few miles I see them off the highway occasionally upside down. I have a white knuckle ride home worrying that one of these nuts will loose control and plow into me. I have done this job for 19 years and have seen alot of crazy stuff. on the plus side, I also see many beautiful and interesting things too. flowers, animals , holiday lights, bikes on motorcycle weekend, and what the heck is that I have never seen one of those before(equipment being moved, military vechiles, people in costumes, etc)

I got a tip from someone here and picked up my first 4 girls today ( Delaware , Polish , Bar Rock & Americauna ) This should keep me busy for a bit , and hold me over till the spring swaps start

...Thanks for the offer ! Sounds like you will have no problem finding them good homes

congrats on starting your flock. I was wondering how you would be able to wait till next spring to try out your new coop.

Thanks Chick Magnet

I tried to hold off ...but the anticipation was too great

They took well to their new home , and despite some fighting between the Delaware ( "Delly" as she's now called ) and the Americauna . We shut them in the coop for a while ...and now they are best buddies ... Left myself a couple vacant spots for spring

You should keep a blog of all the stuff you see, it would be interesting! Hubby was an undertaker for 20 years, that was before I knew him. Has he ever got stories to tell. I keep saying he ought to write them all down, but he never does.

Maybe I should talk about chickens again? Heh. My faverolle decided now would be a good time to molt, in spite of me giving the girls supplemental light to keep them laying through the winter. D'oh!

yeah, i have that same problem with my oldest fav hen. she is having a very rough molt-almost bald and patchy beard at the moment. 3 of my other girls already went through theirs and are looking much better and back to laying. the 5th girl i don't know why but still hasn't laid her 1st egg and she is well overdue but not molting.

the blog is a great idea. I'll bet your hubby has lots of stories. I deliver to a place where they cremate people. someone explained to me how to tell if the place was "in use". that is information that I REALLY wish I didn't have.

I have a sultan and an appenzeller that are molting now. it is nice that they waited. They kept me in eggs when everyone else stopped. now they are taking a well earned rest.

you must be very worried about the almost bald one on the cold nights.

So since I'm relatively new to the forum ... can someone explain the whole chicken swaps thing to me? When do they usually start? How does it work?

Thanks!

Amy
