CHICKEN SWAPS OF NH SWAP LISTINGS

hi,
I see there is some confusion about how npip testing works.
the day the tech comes and draws blood is much like when you go have blood drawn. it does not mean you passed. it means you have had blood drawn.

the state takes the blood and runs tests. if your birds pass you will receive a card in the mail and a letter saying your birds passed.
in addition to drawing blood, the tech bands every bird. at this point the bands are how the state can id any birds with issues. the bands mean nothing unless you also have the cert.

Yeah I figured this out when I got home, lol. I was at work and hubby emailed me to say it was all done, everyone was okay! Then I looked at the paperwork the tester left behind, and realized that all it said was that she had tested and banded the birds. I asked hubby about it and he said yeah, he just meant that all the chickens survived the ordeal, LOL.

I posted in my excitement before I understood all this, heh! What can I say? It's the first year we have done this, I'll get it figured out eventually. Still, I can bounce up and down and say I got the ball rolling, at least. :)

wait they never said anything about sending anything in? i got papers and a little card saying i was. this was in june or july last year.
you may sell at swaps. you need to do nothing else other than to be retested once per yesr when your current cert expires. all vendors need to bring a copy of the little card to blazing saddles the first time you set up to sell.

you are npip tested now.
Unless you fill out the paperwork for the NPIP program you are not part of it. You are not "NPIP tested", you are state tested.... there is a difference. The card means you are state tested... NPIP is, in fact, different. You get separate paperwork, which is why there are so few names on the list I posted earlier.

I'm not posting any more on the subject, if you don't believe me contact Dr. Crawford. His email is on this page:

the letter I received when I was tested states " the enclosed card is hereby issued certifying that the poultry flock of (name goes here) has been tested negative for both pullorum and avian influenza and must be presented to all poultry superintendents,in-stare and out-of-state, within the new england area as proof of negative testing as agreed upon by the regulatory officials of the new england states and this will remain in effect for the twelve month period from the date of the test.

it is a huge step to make the decision to get your flock tested! the hard part is all done. when I got mine done I handed them to the hubby and made him hand them to the tester. I just couldn't watch them get blood from my kids. I took them back after the test and gave them a cuddle. after the tester left everyone got treats. congrats on having them tested and let us know when your cert arrives so we can all do the dance of joy. lol

I hope I have cleared things up for everyone as far as what you need to do to be able to sell at a swap. blazing saddles is currently unavailable. he spent all day yesterday plowing and is currently asleep just in case the state needs him to salt the roads tonight.
I am on my way out to the coop to settle everyone in for the cold night ahead.
oh ya----I had 3 litters of bunnies today and yesterday.

I hope everyones critters do well tonight.

I love my naked necks. I have bantam amd standard frizzled and smooth as well as showgirls. not sure when I will start hatching. I am at every swap and will have them for sale all through the season. I have a full size polish naked neck hen who I will be breeding to a cream legbar. I am hoping to create barred polish naked necks who lay colored eggs.

Well, that just means that I will have to find you! :)

So now, even to sell chicks from 4 wks to 5 mos you need to have those birds NPIP tested also? Do you know the rules if you've gotten hatching eggs from an NPIP certified flock?
