SO far the chick's doing well!

Switched them all over to 21% mash so it can eat and grow, and added calcium in a cup up high enough for the adults, but not accessible to the little ones

Time'll tell!

i keep crossing my fingers i will be able to get some lf fav chicks from Cackle hatchery when they start taking orders on the 19th! not sure how good their quality is but the other breeds i got before have been decent! my dh would kill me if i ordered adult birds again!

My last hatch back in July turned out to be 5 boys, 1 girl. I did get a very nice bantam black boy out of that though. He's going to be a happy boy soon too. He's getting a black girl and a splash girl for company.

I think Meyer's had okay ones too. Just don't get any from Ideal.

I think you're best off finding faverolles pullets instead of marans. Roo sets color, hen sets type. But if you can get a few feather legged cuckoo marans you could experiment.​

my project cuckoo fav/marans roo has the color, beard/muff and everything going for the cuckoo fav project. strangely, the roo came from a bantam fav roo over a lf marans hen! i just wanted a few more marans to use for the f1 to help with the color and looks.

Not so strange, really. That cross results in sex linked offspring. Cuckoo males and black females.

Now with that boy over cuckoo females you should get mostly cuckoo/barred offspring, and some black pullets. Same roo over salmon females you can get salmon, cuckoo, black or even barred/cuckoo salmon.​

First hatch was screwed up by 2 power outages. That killed 7 out of 10. I hatched 2, a black and a splash. Have you started hatching yet?

I don't even have that big demon turned on yet. Redoing that room and think I'm gonna until til after Christmas. Setting up a couple more breeding pens and they will be good than. Still have the Blue so he will need some girls, have extra Salmons for now

Do you have a web site? And what kind of Terriers do you raise? I have a Silkie Terrier and an Australian Terrier, and grew up with Airdales....GOT to love terriers!!

No no site yet, really should work on one in my spare time lol... We used to breed, Yorkies and Toy Fox but no longer breed dogs and just have a few too many for pets. Gotta love that Terrier Attitude!!! Just like mine..

huuuummm.....lots of options there! i think i would still like to look for a marans pullet/hen to help get that first cross going!
