when you found it. congrats. the question is...do you eat it or do you look at it for a while. I blew out my first few eggs so I could keep them. except for the very first one. greg ate it (but not on purpose). I kept the shell pieces for about a year with a "honey, you need to glue these together"

Yeahhhhhh! That is what is so nice about having different breeds, you're more likely to know who is laying! Congratulations!

hey-- don't pick on the crazy chicken ladies. My coop has candles in the windows (battery) and my girls have their own Christmas tree

ok so is the tree in the coop or the run? does it have lights? did you have the girls write to santa so he will know where to bring thier gifts?

The Christmas tree has red and white lights-- just outside the coops. First thing the girls (and boys) do in the morning when they get out
of the run is take a little nibble to see if it tastes good

I will post some pictures tomorrow.

I vote for seeing if the lav eggs are fertile

and using christmas lights as brooder lights

ok, if you are burnt out on crocheting, you could always sew a chicken christmas outfit.

Cheryll, have the lavs started laying again? My girl lays nearly every day. Just wanted you to know that some of my other Ameraucanas have laid one or two eggs and then quit for weeks before starting to lay regularly-- I thought something was wrong, but they were just "figuring things out". If you decide to do some lav hatching let me know-- I won't be getting my eggs from Jean Ribbeck until spring

I think I'll keep it for a little while ...though I like the idea of blowing it out ( and could still eat the egg )

I blew out my first eggs, labeled them with the girls names and the date and turned them into Christmas ornaments
