Wonderfully! I have over 100 newborn to 4 week old babies in my house right now! More once i'm done screaming at ideal tomorrow! The post office was really only about 6 hours late! That should not cause this many to die! Has to be a bad batch! Plus my friends female goose that came in the order died too! The male is traumatized! So it's not even just the chickens! I am really upset!

sounds like you have had a bad couple of days, sorry your little one didn't make it. I pretty much never cull. can't do it. I too would have let it try to live. I kind of do the whatever will be will be
thing---unless the critter is suffering.

23 eggs went in the incubator yesterday afternoon, so I guess that makes today day 1. Let the countdown begin! If even half of them hatch, I'll be happy. I'm not convinced the boys are making it around to all the hens yet, so some of them may not be fertile. But I couldn't take it, had to get started.

Good luck on your hatch. We just hatched out 23 of 27 a couple days ago. Another batch goes into lockdown Wednesday.

Ok, so I am just too nice to scream! I talked to them thi morning and they are sending repacements for all of theirs that I lost! They seem to be really good about that! I wouldn't worry about Ideal! I have gotten a bunch from them and this was the first bad experience! I'm sure it was atually the mail not them!

We ordered all our chicks from Ideal last season and didn't lose any in shipping. They are very good about replacing any losses. We plan on using them again this season.

the boys are very good at sneak attacks. if they are not fertile I would think it is the hens who can run fast and who have good places to hide.

Very true about the sneak attacks, haha! But there's one hen that's still bigger than the boys (they are only 20 weeks old right now) and she still kicks their little butts whenever they try anything with her. But just the same, I put eggs from all the girls in the incubator, just in case.
