My 6 year old loves her 4 hens, enjoys hanging and cuddling her chickens. We went to a flock swap event for discounted accessories, she ended up enamored by an 11 year old trying to unload his birds.
1. He told us the chicks were girls ( I know they are different ages) but I’d like to confirm
2. What flavor maran are these? IMG_2020.jpeg IMG_2020.jpeg

The smallest, based on feathers coming in looks to be about 2.5 to 3 weeks old and is male. The larger seems to be closer to 5 weeks, nearly fully feathered but not quite yet and also (most likely) male with the large wattles already. As far as breed/variety I'm no help.

I was thinking that was male. Joyous day

I'm afraid you may have 2 cockerels there. The little one is definitely a boy and possibly a marans. The larger one has the wrong comb for a marans. I don't know what it is but not a full bred marans and appears to be a boy.

Watching them age for the past almost four weeks I feared she would be disappointed finding out her “here girls” were in fact “here fellas”

Just thinking out loud:

After a second look at the older chick, I think it may have a beard coming in . . .? I don't have any chicks with beards, so I'm not sure on that. If it gets a beard it may be an Easter Egger/Olive Egger.

That's not really helpful since it's a male you'd have to breed him and see what his offspring's eggs look like to be sure, could be an interesting project?

I love a good science experiment and my husband will love a good building project 😆
