CHICKEN SWAPS OF NH SWAP LISTINGS

I have a question about bantam and large fowl and what the popularity is around here for either. I am thinking of purchasing some Orpingtons but my husband and I disagree on whether to get the bantam or standard. He thinks that the bantam is a better buy. I personally prefer large fowl but did purchase my first bantam orpingtons recently but they are too young for me to get a real feel for them. I do LOVE how chunky they feel when you pick them up. Anyway what would be better for up here in New Hampshire in anyone's opinion? These are Jubilee Orpingtons I am wanting to purchase. I have a hard time as it is craigslisting my birds so would one be easier to sell than the other...my husband's concern or does it matter at all? Thanks.
My experience has been that LF sell better.......people want the full size eggs.

Now understand I'm going on my own personal experiences.

Benefits of bantams - eat less (with the cost of feed this isn't trivial), you can have more bantams than you can the big birds in a finite area

Cons of bantams - extra birds, even the hens, were tough to sell and people aren't interested in bantam eggs

Benefits of standards - larger eggs, I have no problem selling extra pullets, roosters or eggs

Cons of standards - you'll have to keep fewer of them if you have a finite chicken yard, feed costs, big roosters have big lungs

For the past 2 years I've had LF salmon Faverolles and bantam blue/black/splash Faverolles. As rare as the bantam BBS Favs are I just sent off my entire breeding flock to AL because I could just not sell my extra birds. Blue is a tough color to breed and you need to hatch large numbers of chicks each year. No point in hatching a lot if you have to keep most of what you hatch. Most people just aren't interested in the smaller eggs and processing the extra boys is a lot of work with little to show for it.

I've found it is a lot easier to sell extra LF pullets and eggs, and I even have people who buy my extra roosters.

It is a matter of personal preference though. It's about what YOU want in a chicken. You want birds that you will enjoy. If you really like bantams then go that route. If you like the big birds then that's the way to go. If you're on the fence then try small flocks of both varieties, and see which works out better.

Thanks so much. I really prefer the large fowl and I really wanted some Jubilees so I was willing to do bantams just to ease them in but I went for the Standard size because that was my original desire. I don't want a ton of birds so the size is not a real issue there.

Now on to the construction of pens and coops.
