We bought hens on Saturday in Tilton and one is very sick -- looks like she could die any minute. Did anyone else buy a hen that seems sick? This is a black and white mottled cochin, about 15-16 weeks. I didn't catch the name of the seller, but if this sounds familiar to you, please reply to me and let me know if any illness has turned up in your flock.

Sounds like you've decided who to part with! I'm down to two of the RIRs and a couple of dozen 7 week olds. Looks like Saturday will be my last day! The back yard is looking soooo empty!

I am still struggling with who stays and who goes. every week I let a few more go and my life gets a little easier. I just hope my kids go to good homes.

Yes, for sure. I'm still struggling about my flock and tomorrow is decision day. All the mama's boys are going to freezer camp and probably a couple of the older hens too. I can't keep weight on the crossbeak and that'll be a hard decision, especially with winter. A (mostly) empty back yard also means I get to fill it again! Lots of babies IN the house this winter!
