CHICKEN SWING

I saw one made from a tire with a piece of plywood attached to the top...was super cute. Three ropes holding it up. Seems safer? No room for one right now but would love to try it.

I put in a chicken swing in my coop and today encouraged my 4 month old barred rock to hop up. She seemed to love it. Moved the swing by bobbing her tail up and down. Maybe she was trying to balance, but think if she didn't like it, she would have hopped off.

Will have to move it because it was above a roost and the other hens were in the way and not happy. The swing took up about 2' swinging from side to side. I think I will put it in the run which is larger and 6' tall. Need some larger branches or trunks.

What fun!

Really made a difference when I had one available when the chicks were only a week or so old. They continue to swing on the "adult swing" as young pullets. Sometimes two or three birds on it at once.

Awesome idea. I'll have to make a mini one for the brooder and one to put in the run for daytime fun.
That'll be one of my summer projects.

I got the commercially manufactured swing as a Christmas gift. I just can't see my two kinda shy hens jumping up on to something that's moving- and i thought I'd check with you guys. Sounds like some chickens are using it but most ignoring it.

still trying to figure out whether to eBay it or break open that shrink wrap and try it. HA

Speaking from my experience..........the hens in all probability will not use it. I have found that a swing works best with mine when they are introduced to it as baby chicks. (See my earlier post above.) Also I have found that "homemade" swings have a rougher surface that works better for gripping purposes. JMO.

I built a chicken swing last week. Unfortunately they don't seem to be interested in it. I have it under a house eave to give it a bit of shelter in the rain. The idea is to give them something to play with in the rain and stay dry.

I have put them (2 chickens) on the swing but they just jump off and run away. Hung a cob of corn to get them to jump on the perch and eat it but they only jumped off the ground to try and get at it. Had to remove the corn before they broke a leg or something.

Hopefully one day they may use it.
