Chicken terminology

Droppings boards, cleaned daily, will go a long ways towards keeping the coop cleaner/drier/fresher for longer. I mean, chickens do probably almost half their pooping whilst sitting on the roost, so when you intercept and remove that every morning it really does count.

Dilly, with at most 6 chickens (unless your plans have changed) you are really not going to have as much problem with smell/flies as you seem to think you are, unless perhaps you live in an extremely humid and rainy climate. Honest!

Sunny California. I am definitely going with the poop bin, only way to go. Has anyone ever built the poop bin higher like nid wall so it is just under the pearch by a couple feet? This way the poop doesn't have that long drop and chance of splatter?

ALso Pat, how far away from the wall should the roost be so they do not pooh down the wall/
