We had 6 hens 11 months old .They all started laying within 1 month of each other. 2 Bantam cochins, 3 Americaunas and One lonely girl, New Hampshire Red, the only one of her breed, Never layed an egg. She was shunned by the others. They would peck at her when we tried to give all of them treats. She would run into the hen house. She ate well and walked around with them otherwise. She also had a very different sound, a deep voice rather than the pretty higher pitched chicken sound. Actually it was quite funny. Yesterday my 12 yo son found her dead just sitting on the hay in the chicken coop. No marks, no drainage or anything unusual to speak of. Any comments?? We feel it will be a mystery.
