Chicken throwing dirt and burying herself

Mine do the same thing. Sometimes they get the dirt flying all over the place. Then they'll stand up and it's amazing the amount of dirt they have on their bodies. I add DE to the places where they dust bathe to help with insects.

Mine all do that and I'm thinking they are dust bathing/trying to stay cool all in one

First time I saw one of mine do that - I thought it was having a seizure.

They do that all the time. I once got a picture of several of them dustbathing with dirt flying in the air. XD

I have one that does that also!! At first I use to think she was stuck or confused? But she always does it so we just watch, its so funny to see a chicken rolling around like a dog!!

It's normal, and fun to watch!

3 of my 5 dig little pits they scootch and flop and kick dirt up onto themselves in. One of the remaining two will plop next to one of the other three and take a dirt bath by proxy...getting showered in their efforts, but putting very little into doing much herself. XD The last one goes NUTS....she digs a holes, rolls from side to side while flapping and flailing, throwing dirt everywhere, rubbing the sides of her face in the dirt and occassionally laying on her back and rootching around with her wings partially spread while kicking the air. Absolutely hilarious.

That is how all of my chickens like to dust bathe. You can even see the rooster on his side in this pic.

I call the holes they dig chicken craters

I don't know if this is normal or not but 3 out of my 6 chickens are doing this. Very funny to watch.
