I believe my hen has sour crop. I put her upside down to help and she barfed like I expected. But then HOURS later, I picked her up and you could tell she was gagging so I turned her over and she barfed again..is this normal?

DO NOT force your chicken to vomit. If there is liquid coming out of the mouth, then she has an impacted crop - if there is a foul smell, then the impaction has soured and she has sour crop. First step is isolate her without and food or water for several hours or preferably overnight and check the crop again in the morning. If she continues to eat the food will just pile up and ferment (sour crop). After overnight without food a normal crop should be flat and empty. If you continue to vomit your chicken, it will end up aspirating and dying.

So you’re saying this will resolve on its own? Super frustrating since everywhere I read says something different
No it will not. I’m saying wait until the morning to actually diagnose a crop issue. The crop should be flat and empty after overnight with no food or water. If it’s still enlarged and full, then the crop is impacted and you’ll need to start treatment. Some people offer some solidified coconut oil chunks to try and break up the impaction. I’m going to summon some experts and see what they say about it.

What makes you believe that she has sour crop?
Please tell us symptoms. Thank you.

Check her crop first thing in the morning before she's had anything to eat/drink. If the crop is still full, has air/fluid, etc. in it, then read this article to determine the course of treatment you need to administer. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/

It's really not a good idea to vomit a chicken since they can aspirate. Crop issues usually cannot be resolved in a day or two, it takes time.
