Hi, my silkie had leg mites for ages and I didn't know about it. After I washed her , one of her toes is hanging limp at 90 degrees. I think need to amputate it. Can any give me any advise on how to do it safely?

never mind, it got to the point she couldn't put her foot down, so i had a closer look and it was on held by a thin piece of skin. I cut it off and it only bleed for a few seconds. any advise on post-op care would still be appreciated though.

Apply iodine, bacitracin ointment, or an antiseptic without a painkiller to it, and you might want to keep her in a clean cage for a day or two until the skins starts healing. Most chickens do fine with a missing toe, but check it daily for a few days to look for any infection.
