What do we do in the situation of raccoons?

Allow the bird to recover, and explain to the kids that she's "hurt" and needs to rest.

I'm not sure what you're asking in the quoted reply shown just above, but security of the flock is paramount to keeping chickens. There are dozens and dozens of threads about creating predator-proof runs and coops that can be found by searching the forums in the tan bar at the top of this page. Click on "Forums" to be sure you're at the right place, then click on "Search forums" in the tan line just below where you see "Forums".

In the search bar a little down the page that appears, type any number of combinations of keywords to narrow your search.

Last, there is an entire sub-forum devoted to Pests and Predators that you can search within to find solutions to a raccoon problem.

I would like to get this resolved as quickly as possible because my kids are upset that they can’t play with it. What would happen if I force it out?
She could get even more stressed if you force her out or allow your kids to play with her. She is shocked and is in a grieving state. If you were her, would you want to be played with? Or left alone?
