Getting ready to build a chicken tractor for meat birds coming in a couple weeks. gonna have a 4ft X4ft coop or enclosure connected to a 4ft X10ft run covered with welded wire.. What do you do for the floor of the run. Leave it open, so the chickens can get to the ground or use welded wire. . If I leave it open, I ll do a 1 ft apron around the base. Will that stop predators from digging underneath.

I don't have meaties but I left my floor open on my tractor. It allows them to dig a dust bath if they want.

I have a 12x16 tractor and I left the floor open. I put a apron around the outside bottom 12 inches wide ,I have yet to have a digging problem.

The wire apron around the outside sounds good to me. I'd want my birds to be able to scratch and dustbath in the soil without the wire in the way.
