How old do chicks have to be to eat mashed up boiled egg? Do they need grit for that or will the chick starter fees be enough?

As a general rule I provide grit if they are going to eat anything except chick feed. They do not need any food beyond the starter but egg makes a good treat which they can eat from day one, if you want.

I don't give chicks any treats for 8 weeks, only Start & Grow feed.
Of course when I put them outside at 5 weeks they had access to bugs, worms, amphibians and grass and weeds, and I offered them Chick Grit.
They got their first treat of scratch grains at 8 weeks.
Just remember eggs average 12.5% Protein, so you will lessen the Protein they need to grow, from the 18/20% in the Starter feed. GC
