Chicken Very Sick! HELP!!

I was reading up on it and Botulism sounds about right. I just hope she can make it through. It sounds like most at her stage don't make it, (if it is Botulism.) I'm crossing my fingers. I don't want my baby girl to pass. I have found some maggots in the bottom of my parakeet's cage and just cleaned that out so maybe there was some infectious maggots in their cage, because I always give them fresh food and their pellets are never rotten. Although, they always poop in their waterer and I try my best to clean it out but they always find the urge to do their business there.

A university website with a pretty good list of diseases, symptoms, etc. It is in Mississippi so there might be regional differences to other forum members far from their location. You could call your local county extension agent. You might want to call all the cat/dog vets in your area - often one or more of the vets in the practice will handle chickens. I was lucky - my regular vet does chickens.

What you decribe sounds like it is something else in addition to the round worms unless the infestation was so heavy as to completely impair the bird. Did you take the birds temperature as you mention the bird 'feels' hot. I think a normal body temperature is about 106 degrees F for chickens.

I didn't take her temperature but she is much too hot than she normally would be. When I found her she had sweat through her feathers. I'll see if my regular vet does chickens aswell.

You will all be happy to know that Tiana is doing somewhat better. She is eating her fruits and veggies and I am not having to shove the bottle with the medicine, pedialyte, and water in her mouth. She still can't stand up on her own but can pretty much hold her head up. Her comb is returning to its normal color. I'm now thinking that it could have been the Poultry Protector that I sprayed in her cage. You see, it says on the label to not use it with any chicken with a weakened immune system. Well, for the longest time, whenever I picked her up, she would make a slight wheezing sound, so this makes me think she might have a respiratory problem and the Poultry Protector set her over the edge. Or maybe it is Botulism. Either way, she seems to be getting better *Knock on wood*

. And thanks to everyone who put in a lot of time to help me figure out what to do with my baby girl. We both thank you.

Oh Im so happy for you!! Its great when you see them getting better!!

Congratulations on your dilligence paying off!

She is in the best of hands!

Amazing! She is eating her greens and veggies, (She is refusing to eat her layer, but I think that's okay while she's still recovering,) and can hold her head up completely. Shd csn now walk a little with heavy steps, (She is still regaining her strength.) She is eating like a horse and is pooping a lot, so that's good. She is drinking a lot, too. She even layed an egg today! It had a soft shell, so it broke, but I think it's just from being sick. I'm so proud of my baby girl and incredibly thankful to all who helped me in her darkest hours.
