Chicken Vocal Cord Dysfunction?

Hello! I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me figure out what is going on with one of my girls, Reynard. She is about 3-4 years old, and seems highly hormonal. Recently she has been acting weird: being less social, active, and friendly to humans. She seems to have no physical problems other than a possible case of scaly leg mites (of which I have the resources to treat). Now, she seems to make involuntary noise every time she breathes. It sounds like croup, strider or vocal cord dysfunction in humans. However, she doesn’t seem sick and is still interested in treats. If anyone could give me an idea of what this is, I would be grateful! I will be linking a video of her as well.

Possible Gape Worm. If they get large enough it can obstruct their breathing and cause raspy sounds.
There are a lot of respiratory illnesses, but thats what comes to mind.

It sounds more like stridor, although she doesn’t seem to be in any distress. Stridor is a high pitched sound on inspiration and expiration which is caused by something that is partially blocking the airway. That could be mucus, a piece of food, swelling in the airway, or a small amount of crop contents coming up into her throat. Mucus could be a problem if something in the environment is irritating her airways. Have you ever seen any respiratory infection in her or other flock members?

I think that chickens with gapeworm are very distressed, and cannot usually eat or drink or be very active, because they cannot breathe. It is also rare. But you can have her poop checked for gapeworm larvae, or go ahead and treat for possible gapes. SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer or the Equine paste can be given orally 0.25 ml per pound for 5 consecutive days to kill gapeworms and most other chicken worms.

Take it to a vet. Wish I was more helpful but without being sure I cant recommend a treatment

You can use the SafeGuard at the dosage in post 5 to treat gapeworms. Treat for 5 days.
