Hello all,

I have 6 laying hens (since July of this year)
My question is how to keep them warm. I have a clamp light with a red spotlight. Will this be too much for an 8x12 coop?

:frow hi, I see that you are new! If you want to post a new member introduction, scroll through the forums list and add your thread there. If you want to ask about warmth, post in the coops section :)

You dont have to warm the whole coop, if they're cold they will get under the light. You dont say where you live or how cold, but unless it is really cold, you dont need heat. No drafts, out of the wind, dry, they can stay warm.
I’m in NC. We have two small “windows” for ventilation. Should we cover those to take care of any drafts?

How cold does it get, realistically?

Heat lamps cause coop fires every single year on this forum.

How much sq footage of ventilation is that, versus how many chickens you have? What other ventilation is available? Even in winter you still want to keep available 1 sq ft or more of draft free ventilation per bird.

It’s a small coop 12x8 (?) the entry door is open (no cover)
