This monday, I got to our farm, and one of my White Leghorns was injured around her neck! She's fine now, in fact, no chicken is pecking at her... but I have a few ideas of how she got hurt.

1. She caught herself on something

2. the disabled possom, Wildflower, who I'm letting stay for the winter, somehow got to Angel. (Her back legs don't work, and she gets along fine with the cats...)

Just saying now, she's super tiny. Just smaller than our oldest spring kitten, Frost. Frost is shorter than all of our chickens, making it hard to think it was Wildflower.

3. A cat born before this spring (so ages 1 to 11) got to her, for they were not raised with chickens for some or all of their life. The reason why I think this, is because one time, a chicken ran by our second-oldest cat, who is 7 years old, named Sherbert, and he tried chasing her down and killing her.

Tell me what you think, or any new ideas, and why... I don't know the answer myself, so don't ask me...

It was 99.44% NOT Wildflower. BTW:hugs for rescuing . Many peeps don't know of the benefits opossum bring. Yes, some large ones when hungry will eat what they can. :(. That normally will happen when one invades chickens sleeping at night, and they start eating from underneath, (soft vent area of chicken).
I also doubt it was a cat. If it was,,,,, then cat would have finished off chicken by biting the head, not neck. MOST cats leave chickens alone. Of course there are some cats that are not soo nice. I have cats,,, and they live alongside my chickens in harmony. (view my Avatar)
I'm inclined to think, your chicken may have sustained injury by getting stuck somewhere.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:highfive:

Ah, thanks. That’s what I was thinking too.

Just wondering how your chickens are doing??? Any other injuries?

They’re all good! The one that got hurt is healing fine, she’s just a bit skinny (nothing food can’t fix!)... And the possum is still at our farm, well... eating the cat’s food, even if it’s warmed up a bit, and I kinda hope she stays, I’m seeing less mice and birds around... (not many cats actually hunt...)

I don’t think the injury was caused by a cat, because our cats usually just ignore the chickens. Except Torch, the kitty got pecked in the face by my cockerel! (He’s fine, no bleeding...)

The chicken that was hurt is a bit slow, so I’ll watch her... but otherwise everything’s fine!
