Chicken Waterer

I have a buff cochin bantam about 5 weeks old. I was refilling its waterer today and I realized there was red stuff growing around the opening of the waterer. Can anyone tell me what this is and how to prevent it? Thanks!

A pic would be helpful. Probably an algae. Put some ACV in your water.

Whenever I clean your waterers I always disinfect them with Oxine (add some Oxine with water in a bottle spray). It works wonders.
