We are in the middle of a heat wave here and I went out this morning to check on my chickens (they live in an old horse stall and are left out during the day to free range all over the farm). My alpha rooster was sitting in the stall and couldn't move? All the other chickens ran out to see me. He was panting and did feel hot so I assumed heat stroke. I took him down into the basement and gave him fresh cool water and food and a chopped up boiled egg. I saw him eating and drinking and he moved his wings a little but he can barely move his legs? I came home after work just now and went to check on him and he was sitting peacefully and I noticed he had eaten and drank. I lifted him up and his legs move very slowly but he would not walk. He was making chicken noises like when they do when they are separated from the flock. His feces is completely normal looking, not even runny. He lifts his back end up when he has to go to the bathroom. Does anyone have an idea what this is? It came on so suddenly I'm inclined to think it was heat stroke and maybe he just needs a couple days to recooperate? I just don't want him to suffer. This was him yesterday morning???
