Chicken Wheelchairs

We have a crippled chicken, and bought his wheelchair here:

They are in Australia, so the shipping is expensive, but I was having a hard time figuring out how to make one, so it was worth it to me. They are super nice people, and the proceeds go to funding their farm animal sanctuary.

Our chicken outgrew his wheelchair pretty quickly (either that or I measured wrong), so I ended up copying the design and making a new one myself, with a few added improvements, like a bag to catch the poop.

The one thing I have not tried to replicate, and I'm not sure how hard it would be, is the food dishes and the metal holders, but I'm sure you could work it out or find something similar.

Our chicken likes his chair and has learned to scoot himself around on our hardwood floors. I highly recommend it.

Yeah i do wanna buy one, but it would cost something like £75 for me. I do hope it’s a vitamin deficiency and she’ll suddenly spring back to life, but i think buying one of those is a good idea.

Once you really look at the design, it's not hard to make yourself. It will take some trial and error to get the measurements right, but it's worth a try. The sling is basically a square of fabric (I layered two pieces together and added stuffing to make it softer), with two leg holes and a poop hole. The two sides are sewn to make a slot for a wooden rod on each side to help keep the shape of the sling. There is a loop of webbing (that material that backpack straps, dog collars, and such are made of) attached to the frame with plastic buckles, and the sling has a long strip of webbing sewn across the underside of the front and back of the sling so that you can slip them into the buckles and adjust height.

You can see everything in this picture. All you need for the frame is PVC pipe and a pvc cutter (available for around 10-15 USD on Amazon). Oh, and I guess a drill for the holes to hang the feel bowls.

So, I’ve been researching about ways to get my little chick to walk around, as she’s hasn’t in about a week. I’ve seen these ‘chicken therapy chairs’ and i think it would be a really good idea. Does anyone know if they can be brought in the uk, or how to go about making something similar?

What vitamins are you giving? I have had a chicken that started limping about 4 weeks ago. her foot is curled and shes not using it. I'm also wanting a wheelchair for her since shes not using her leg know.
