chicken wire vs welded wire?

we are using hardware cloth all around. The run is 12x8x5
I am way too attached to the girls to put them at even the slightest risk.

We used chicken wire the first time...........then we built a bantam run and used welded wire. My husband said we can toss whats left of the chicken wire because he would rather pay more and use welded wire.
The chicken wire is not fun to work with.

Good points to consider. I think of raccoons as nighttime animals, but you're right...they could be out and about anytime. We are in the city, and we have an alley along the back which is probably a superhighway for chicken predators.

We're now totally sold on the 1/2 or 1/4 inch hardware cloth/welded wire.
