Hey,

So overnight a chicken lost all it's back feathers.. most of them are in the nesting box. We don't have a rooster and the chooks have all been together for at least 6 months. She is also not the bottom chook.

Any advice would be great!! Thanks!!

Could be going broody and for whatever reason is plucking back feathers :idunno
Put a chicken saddle on her and lock her out of the nest boxes overnight.

I don't have a clue how that happened. It almost looks as if she got caught somewhere and struggled to get free. It's not molting and surely does not look like feather plucking/pulling.

That is really odd. Does she always spend the night in the nest?
Is she plucking belly feathers too?
How old is she?
Have you checked them for bugs?

I had a barred Rock that ate her soft back feathers too. It was a bad habit. Try upping the protein in the feed.
Have had one of these 2...despite higher protein feed....she's just weird.
