Chicken With Blocked Nose

Coinkdink

In the Brooder
Hi

My father a day ago bought home another Hen for our small group, now the Hen has been acting docile and keeping to itself as it's getting pecked by the other 2 chickens, (Not all the time, just sometimes) I'm told this will subside as this is just the ''Pecking Order''.

Anyways the Chicken itself was quite dirty, had longish nails and beak (Which I've trimmed and I'm going to give her a bath/clean tomorrow) but I noticed it's nostrils were blocked too. I decided to try and clear the blockage with Water, Ear Buds and Toothpicks however it seems like it's not just dirt in it's nostrils but some type of encrusted and puss filled growth (in both nostrils). i didn't want to dig too deep and end up hurting her so I left it.

I'm worried as I think this is affecting it's breathing, a few times it will turn it's head down and then back up as if it's gasping for air but 80% of the time it seems fine. I'm not entirely sure what to do, I feel like taking her to the Vet but I'm wondering if there's anything I can give her or do to fix the problem?

I took some pictures of her beak area to show:
Sorry they're not very clear, she kept moving around so they kept coming out blurry.

I'm pretty new to looking after Chickens so any feedback would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

I dunno....maybe some kind of respiratory issue?
Eyes look clear.
Anything growing inside the mouth?
Could be dirty scar tissue from a fight ...or a deformity?

Where did this bird come from?

The thing is it's filled with Puss and it's hard, encrusted and soft/tender in some area's. None of my other Chicken's noses are like that, they are nice, clean and clear. I checked this Hen's Choanal Slit and it seemed clean and there is nothing else growing in it's mouth. I will say that it produces a lot of saliva for some reason especially when it's eating??

I'm not entirely sure where the Chicken is from but I think it's from an elderly gentleman who has a big flock of chickens and he actually gave us the other 2 I have (which were in good and healthy condition when we got them).

It looks like a combo of secretions and possibly food, but hopefully it is not pus. Pus would be a sign of a respiratory disease. I would pull her back out of the flock, and place her in quarantine for a month. Does she have any rattly breathing, sneezing, or labored breathing?

To clean her nares or nostrils, take a qtip or cotton and put a drop or teo of hydrogen peroxide on her nostrils. Take a feather quill or a wooden toothpick or orange stick and gently clean some of the caked on material a little at a time. It might take more than one session.

Look her over for red mites or lice. You can bathe her if you bring her inside and dry her with a hairdryer afterward.
