Hi all, we let our girls out this morning and realised one of them (a little Rhode Island red called Jemima) was limping and standing on one leg. I took her to the vet who diagnosed a broken leg and gave us some pain killer, but didn't splint the toe. I've splinted the toe as it was starting to look a little bent and she seems comfortable. She's eating well, her comb colour is good and she is chatty and bright. I've also put antisceptic ointment on the toe as she had cut it as well.
I tried keeping her in doors, but she was getting very stressy and kept escaping, so I have returned her to the flock (shut in an enclosed run to limit her movement). She seems totally happy, but I'm wondering how long toes normally take to heal and is there anything else I should be doing.
Unfortunately our normal chicken savvy vet was off today and the vet we saw wasn't super experienced with chickens.
Any help or advice would be gratefully received.
Kind regards
Chris
