I just went to feed my chickens and one of my gals who normally scoots away from me, was just sitting down. When she moved, I could see what appeared to be diarrhea under her. While still in the coop, I saw her go and it is definitely hers. The diarrhea is brown and yellow in color. I looked at the "read this" at the start of the thread and have pasted the questions below and I will answer each.
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) She is a New Hampshire, approximately 3 years old. Her weight does not appear to have changed.
2) What is the behavior, exactly. She was sitting down and did not move when I came in the coop, which is atypical for her.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? I just noticed today.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? So far my other 6 hens appear fine.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. No.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. No idea.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. My hens eat laying crumbles and sometimes free range.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. The poop is runny and brown yellow in color.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? Nothing yet. I just discovered her this way and came here to research.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? I would prefer to treat myself.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use. My hens have a coop with a bar they roost on and four laying boxes. Usually only one, sometimes two of the laying boxes contain eggs. The bedding is shavings.
I am going to post this now and go back out to the coop to take photos I can post from my phone.
