I have a 3 year old BO that has had some diarrhea. It is watery brown, and you hear a gurgling noise right before it comes out - and it's much more frequent than normal. It's not overly hot here, and the others don't have diarrhea, so I don't think that has anything to do with it. She's eating and drinking great, acting completely normal. She does have it on her butt feathers, which is what made me start paying enough attention to see her having the diarrhea. I haven't been able to get a sample to take into work with me (I'm a vet tech).
I had another chicken that was very sick a couple months ago - she's a 2 year old Isa Brown. She ended up having spirochetes in her fecal, but was acting really sick (not eating well, puffed up, lethargic). I talked to a poultry vet then that told me to treat her with Tetracycline, and her diarrhea cleared up, and she's eating better but still not 100% herself. Her diarrhea looked different though, and had yellow in it. I assumed she had salpingitis like the other Isa Brown I had gotten with her that had to be put down last year - she had the same symptoms but I think I caught this one early enough to treat her before she got really bad. Anyway - rambling on, but just wanted to share that I had another chicken with some issues earlier, just not completely the same issues.
So does anyone have any ideas on what it could be or what to do? I don't want to treat her for no reason with the Tetracycline, especially b/c I have to isolate her to do that and she will NOT be happy about it. I want to tackle this before she potentially does get worse...she's my little buddy and actually asks for hugs at bedtime.
