I have a 4 year old Ameracauna she's one of 6 total chickens but is the only one looking disheveled. Feathers sticking out. She acts fine eats but is looking a little thin. A few months before she was not well. Walking like she was drunk. I gave her polyvisol and pedialyte and she bounced back but now looks like crap. Not sure what to do because I don't know what is wrong with her. I'm worried. And why do these pop up windows keep happening while I'm typing?

If it were mites wouldn't the other chickens look the same? I will check again in the morning.
Haven't noticed any diarrhea but, I have noticed (and trying to figure out but found nothing online) poop that is crumbly (for a lack of a better description). I've looked for images of chicken feces of sick chickens and can't find any that look like this. Not really dry but not formed. Thought maybe I was giving too much hay to scratch through. Because some of the feces in the morning after roosting looks like pieces of the hay in a flat pile. More than one chicken has feces like this because there are usually two or three piles that look like this. But, I don't see any like this in the chix yard during the day when they are out and about. Still, she is the only one not looking right.

No, sometimes it will just be a few chickens with the disheveled feathers (seen this myself).

As far as dry poo goes, hmm- I haven't seen that. You can make sure they are getting grit- or that they can pick up grit in the dirt (sharp gravel). I throw some out on the ground for the chickens that I buy from the feed store since I don't really think our soil has that much grit in it and I feed so many whole grains/seeds.

you might want to post her symptoms (in detail) and pictures of her, if available - in the Emergencies, diseases, illness, treatment" thread.

I live in NM with a lot of sand. And, was told I didn't need grit b/c of this. And, I've had my chix for 4 years w/o using grit. I'.l repost in the diseases section as suggested and take pics today. My DH thinks I'm crazy and worry too much but, she is my special lady.
